Minnie J. (Melby) Wieler

Minnie J. Wieler found peace on August 12, 2008, at the age of 101. She was born January 30, 1907, in Rice Lake, WI, daughter of the late Ingwald and Olena (Nee: Amundson) Melby.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward. She was the loving mother of M. June (the late Fritz) Vogel of Johnson Creek, Raymond “Corky” (the late Sally) Steger of Racine, and Donna J. (David) Thome of Greendale; special aunt of Richard and Robert Melby; proud grandmother of Bob, Art, Sharon, Fred, Jim, Carol, Joni, Jacque, Steven, Chris, Alex and Anne; great-grandmother of 23 and great-great-grandmother of 22. Minnie is also survived by four loving sisters: Eleanor Dase, Ruth James, Fran Peterson and Betty Rumen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Minnie was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge of Hayward and the Sons of Norway. She was known for her cooking and baking, generosity, her humor and love of dancing. Friends and relatives frequented her homes in Racine and Hayward where the coffee pot was always on, cake, pie and cookies ready for her guests. During her last years she resided at Lincoln Village where she was known for her friendliness, humor and ‘witty’ sayings and was a favorite of many staff and residents. She enjoyed bingo, the races, bell choir and occasionally helping bake cookies. She loved to play solitaire with Rick, June and Donna during their visits.

Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home for visitation and refreshments on Friday, August 15, 2008, from noon until time of service at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate her life with donations in her honor to the activity department of Lincoln Village, 1700 CA Becker Dr, Racine, 53406.

A special thanks to the caring, loving staff of the Village for the attention and care you have given to our dear mother in her time of need and for your sensitivity with us. All of you: CNA’s, nurses, activity staff, kitchen staff, administration and reception and Dr. Bonnie have been wonderful. Also thank you Sam and Roy for looking after Mom and enjoying her so much.
