George William Thomas, 88, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Monday, August 25, 2008.
George was born in Carrier Mills, Illinois, on Sept. 19, 1919, to the late William and Mary (nee: McCutcheon) Thomas. He has lived in Racine since 1949.
George faithfully served our Country with the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division in Europe during WWII, including the Battle of the Bulge. On Jan. 4, 1941, in Charleston, MO, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Imogene B. Lyle, who preceded him in death on May 26, 1996.
Prior to retirement, George was employed as a furnace installer and repair specialist with Service Oil and Franksville Oil. Years ago, he attended Immanuel Baptist Church. George was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; liked reading and watching boxing. Above all, he enjoyed being at home in the surroundings of his entire family.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dean Creuziger; grandchildren, Scott, David and Gregg (Peggy) Creuziger; and Amy (Ralph Jr.) Slaasted; great-grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Creuziger; Danielle, Caitlyn and Joshua Slaasted, all of Racine; brothers, John Thomas of Harrisburg, IL, Norman (Frances) Thomas of Imperial, CA, and Donald (Beverly) Thomas of Harrisburg; sister, Virginia Kingston of Harrisburg; and many special nieces, nephews and other relatives too numerous to mention by name.
In respecting George’s wishes, private family funeral services will be held with Rev. Arne Gulbrandsen officiating. Interment, with military honors, will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park.
A special note of thanks to Dr. William Nicholson and Dr. Thomas Wood; the entire staffs of Harmony Commons and Ridgewood Care Center (especially Jewel) for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended during a difficult time. God bless all of you!
