Mrs. Ruth Alice Cooke, 87, passed away on Friday afternoon, August 15, 2008, at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. She was born on April 17, 1921, to the late Carl and Alice (nee: Niebuhr) Nelson.
She lived in Racine until 1959, when she moved to Beaver Dam where she and her husband lived until moving to Fond du Lac in April of 2001. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Cooke in Camp Pickett, VA, on June 30,1942; he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2001.
Ruth was a graduate of Racine County Normal School and taught in the Racine School System in her early years. She was a devoted wife and mother. Ruth was a great collector of Mickey Mouse memorabilia.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dr. Barbara (Anthony) Ybarra, Marianne Cooke, Janet (Mark) Rohloff; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim (Margaret), Robert (Sandra), Randy (Roxanne) Cooke; nine grandchildren, Robert, Billy, and Peter Cooke, Jason, Bryan, Justin and Brendan Rohloff, Anna and Travis Cooke; cousin, Richard Nelson; sister-in-law, Ethel Mae Kells and other relatives. A sister, Marjorie Nelson; and a brother James Nelson preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian Hastings officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Cooke to St. Francis Home Employee Appreciation Fund have been suggested.
