Ethel Stougaard, 93, of Racine, passed away at Bethany Nursing Home in Waupaca on Saturday August 30, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Racine on January 3, 1915, the daughter of Jacob and Marien (nee: Fuglsang) Hansen.
Ethel was united in marriage to Chris Stougaard in Racine on June 11, 1944. She was a longtime faithful member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, participating in Women’s Circle and The Women of the Church. She also attended Racine Bible Church on a regular basis. Ethel was devout in her faith, attending Bible studies at the Danish-American Home.
Ethel worked as a hairstylist and governess as a young woman and developed into a talented seamstress after marriage. She was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing in several groups.
Ethel is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jack) Huse of Waupaca, and her two grandchildren, Neil (Glori) Huse of Vernon Hills, IL, and Sara Huse of Fitchburg. Other survivors include three great- grandchildren, Matthew, Emily and Katelyn Huse; one brother, Richard (Alice) Hansen of Racine; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris, and her sister, Rose Daley.
Funeral services will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St., on Friday, September 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. M.A. Miritz officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the Ethel Stougaard family has suggested memorials to the Danish-American Home, 5111 Wright Ave, Racine, WI 53406.
