Frances C. (MacLeod) McGregor

Frances C. McGregor passed away on August 14, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/All Saints as a result of lung complications of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

On July 28, 1944, Fran was born in Racine to Douglas and Gertrude MacLeod. She attended Fratt, McKinley, and Park High, graduating in June of 1962. She attended St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac and worked for several Physicians in Milwaukee before returning to the UW-Madison where she earned a BS degree in Occupational Therapy in 1970. As an Occupational Therapist, she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, and in 1977 she started working for Racine Unified Schools where she worked until June of 1995, as an OT at Wadewitz Elementary School.

On July 18, 1970, Fran and Robert McGregor, Sr. were united in marriage. They lived most of their married life in Mt. Pleasant, WI, where they raised two children, daughter Bonnie and step-son Robert Jr.

Fran was a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association, the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, Racine County Extension Homemakers, American Association of University Women, Racine branch, Friends of Channel 10/36, and the American Arthritis Association. For 10 years she was on the Board of Directors of the Racine County Cerebral Palsy Agency. She was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church and an Associate member of Central Lutheran Church, in Arizona City, Arizona. She volunteered her time at the Church, tutoring English at Ellsworth Prison, in Union Grove. In Casa Grande, Arizona, she volunteered in many activities at Fiesta Grande RV Park, served as a reader in the Mayor’s Reading Program, and was a volunteer at the Casa Grande Police Department, doing a variety of office jobs.

Fran was an avid reader, enjoyed crafts and needlework, traveling, and was always learning new computer skills. Fran and Bob were able to do extensive traveling around the United States, and enjoyed multiple cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico. They were also lucky to spend 11 winters in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Fran is survived by her dear husband and helpmate, Robert Sr.; her daughter Bonnie M. McGregor, and step-son, Robert Jr. (Kathy) McGregor; and grandsons Adam and Scott McGregor. She is also survived by a sister, Donna (Gene) Fromm, and her stepfather, George MacDougall; sisters-in-law Genevieve Goldworthy, Betty (Robert), Proost , Nancy Kupper, and brother-in-law Richard Isaacson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Godchildren, cousins, best friend since grade school, Jean Sue Libkind, and many good friends in Wisconsin and Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1962, her mother in 1997, sister-in-law, Jeannette Isaacson and brother-in-law Merrill Goldsworthy.

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Road, Monday, August 18, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Garden Court Crypts. Friends may meet with the family at Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Sunday August 17, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 until time of service.

In Lieu of flowers, Fran has asked donations be made to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, Racine County Cerebral Palsy Agency, or the American Arthritis Association.
