Charlotte M. (Metzger) Barranco

Charlotte M. Barranco, age 92, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at St. Luke’s South Shore, Cudahy, WI, with her daughter JoAnne at her side, two days after her 92nd birthday. Charlotte was born in Racine on October 18, 1917, daughter of the late William and Kuni (Nee: Vogel) Metzger.

On January 27, 1940, at St. Joseph Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Joseph C. Barranco and together they enjoyed 68 years with each other. Joseph preceded her in death, July 20, 2008. Charlotte was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Charlotte had many interests. She was a fabulous cook, homemaker, and accomplished seamstress. Charlotte enjoyed sports, especially University of Wisconsin-Madison and Marquette football and basketball and the Racine Raiders. Most of all she possessed a great sense of humor. Charlotte faced declining health with dignity and courage. Recently she made her home at Franciscan Villa where she received excellent care. She will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her loving children, JoAnne Barranco of Racine, Carol (William) Haigh of Gilbert, AZ, Patricia Robash, Mark (Terri) Barranco, all of Racine; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Couch of Chandler, AZ, John (Colleen) Robash, Jamie Robash, all of Milwaukee, Jacqueline Richard) Beere, Ashley (Jordan) Hulsey, Joseph Barranco, all of Racine, Tony Barranco of Kenosha; three great-grandchildren, Ally and Jack Couch, Taryn Barranco- Bazan; sister, Ann (Mario) Covelli of Racine; sisters-in-law, Susan Metzger, Viola Metzger both of Racine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Angelo Barranco, Sam (Rita) Barranco all of Racine, Adeline Sackman of NC, Susan Griffin of Rockford, IL, Rose (Gene) Bracker of Waukesha; Mary Balabuch of Plano, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to her parents and loving husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Jacklyn Robash; great-grandson, Jameson Couch; brothers, Ben, Edward, Fred, and Albert Metzger; sisters-in-law, Rose and Mary Metzger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank and Julie Barranco, Jane Barranco, Augie Sackman, David Griffin, and Norbert Balabuch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Reverend John D. Aiello officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church and to Franciscan Villa have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Franciscan Villa, especially to nurses Shelly and Connie, caregivers Molly, Amanda, Ericka, Julianna, Nicole and Lanasia, Dr. Munoz, ER and ICU staff of St. Luke’s South Shore, and last but not least to granddaughters Jackie and Ashley for their endless love and care for their Nonnie. We are forever grateful.
