Gilbert H. 'Gil' Hendrickson

Town of Norway -- Gilbert H. “Gil” Hendrickson, 77, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2009, surrounded by his family at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Gilbert was born in Racine, WI, on January 8, 1932, son of Harold and Vernette (nee: Hoffman) Hendrickson.

During the Korean War, Gil proudly served in the United States Marine Corps stationed in Korea and Japan. He was united in marriage to Linda M. Grant, July 20, 1963, in Elgin, IL. Gil was employed by J.I. Case Company for 20 years, retiring in 1992. He previously was employed by the Racine Water Department and had owned and operated a Co-op Service Station in Racine for a number of years. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and the American Legion 310. Gil enjoyed camping, traveling, sightseeing, winters in Florida, classic car and truck shows, and spending time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Gil is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda; daughters, Dawn Hendrickson, Terri (Robert) Bendorf; grandchildren, Kevin, Matthew and Alissa; son, Gilbert Hendrickson; sisters, Cherie (Rev. Robert) Bleeke, Martha (Lawrence) Kogutkiewicz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gil was preceded in death by his aunt, Gladys Ortwig; his step-mother, Helen Hendrickson; his mother, Vernette; and father, Harold.

Funeral services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans, or the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Michael Mullane and staff at Oncology Alliance and to the Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints staff on 2D for their compassionate care and support. May God bless all of the people who helped Gil through his courageous battle with cancer.
