Leo F. Beres, 72, passed away on October 23, 2009, at Ridgewood Care Center. Leo was born in Racine on July 16, 1937, the son of Francis and Lucille (nee: Hanschel) Beres.
He was united in marriage to Alice Carter in Racine on March 20, 1965.
Leo was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1954”. He was employed at Racine Steel Castings, retiring with over 37 years of service.
Leo was a longtime member of Racine Moose Lodge and found great enjoyment in golf and was always up for enjoying “a good cold one” with family and friends.
Leo is survived by his son; Steven (Michele) Beres of Galesburg, Mich.; one step-daughter, Patricia Hullum of Racine; grandchildren, Lisa (Wayne) Raffelson, Justin and Robert Hullum, Jordan, Griffin, Delaney and Emerson Beres; dear friend and longtime companion, Grace Brock and her family.
He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends and extended family, which he loved as his own.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Alice on October 20, 1999; one grandson, Samuel Beres on April 24, 2000; six brothers and sisters; his mother-in-law, Vivian Bosak on October 3, 2009; and one stepson John Phelps.
In keeping with Leo’s wishes, private services have been held with inurnment at Graceland Cemetery.
Leo’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to Water’s Edge Bar and Grill and Danny Palms Restaurant for their longtime friendship and loyal service over the years. Also Ridgewood Care Center and Odyssey Hospice for the compassionate care given to Leo.
