Robert J. Scott

Robert J. Scott, 89 passed away at home with his loving family around him on Thursday, October 22, 2009.

Bob was born in Beltrami, MN, about an hour south of the Canadian border on November 14, 1919, to Jack and Hilda (nee, Kortemeir) Scott. Bob served in the U.S. Army, 86th Infantry, in Central Europe and the Asiatic Theater from 1942 until 1946. Bob married Elsie Pucely in 1947. After Elsie’s death in 1985, Bob married Mary Cipra on June 21, 1986. .

Bob loved family, especially children, enjoying his second wife’s family as much as his own. He was cared for and loved by them all. He had a quick wit, and enjoyed practical jokes, loved music, the outdoors, winters in Florida, summers in Door County, playing cards and two pocket shirts. He worked for the City of Racine, Department of Public Works, and wished he had started there sooner. He made many friends and developed many stories from his time with the city. Bob was a skilled woodworker who built his own home and cottage with the help of friends and relatives.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Scott; children; Randy (Kathy) Scott and Sandra (Jim) Olson, step-children; Judi (Bruce) Ekman and Susan (Jeff) DeGroot; grandchildren, Brandi Scott, Sarah Scott, Aaron Polansky, Elizabeth Polansky; step-grandchildren; Mari (Mike) Magler, Eric Agnew, Kelly (Ben) Bien, Amy (Myke) Goudreau, Heidi (Paul) Kemper, Brent Ekman, Kelly Highman, Danielle (Don) Mau and Stephanie (Luke) Kline; great-grandchildren, Britney and Brandon Huffman, and Morgan, Mya and Mia Johnson; step-great-grandchildren; Payten and Maddix Highman, Alex Mau, Brennan Magler, Landon, Nolan and MacKenzie Bien, Mychael, Myles and Mason Goudreau, and Kelsey, Adelyn and Jude Kemper; sisters, Geraldine Thomforde and Jane Haas; brother, Colin (Joyce) Scott; sisters-in-law, Ruth Scott, Myrtle Scott, Jeanette Wistrand, Doris (Jack) Eriksen, Marion (John) VanHelden and Donna Meyers; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Ann) Mercier and Charles (Peggy) Mercier.

Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stan Scott, Harvey Scott, Ronald Scott and Donald Scott; sister, Evelyn Boyer; eight brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; a niece; nephews; and step-great-grandchild Caden Highman.

Funeral services for Bob will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 7 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Lincoln Village Convalescent Center or Hospice Alliance.

The family would like to thank Dennis and Jennifer Ashley for being the best neighbors and for the many years of extra help and care they provided.

And a special thanks to Bob’s compassionate caregiver and friend, Bayer.
