Dorothy E. (nee: Hoffman) Salvo, 91, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Becker Shoop Center. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on September 19, 1918, the daughter of William B. and Clara (nee: Matson) Hoffman.
On October 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ray Salvo at Holy Communion Lutheran Church. Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of Washington Park High School. She was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and VFW Auxiliary Post #10301. Before Dorothy’s marriage to Ray she was a librarian at Young Radiator, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Later she was a librarian at Holy Communion Lutheran Church and a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed knitting, but most of all she enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker.
Dorothy is survived by her son, John (Barb) Salvo; daughters, Jean (John) Gandee and Marilynn (Nick) Thielen all of Racine; six grandchildren, Jolie Sanders, Jana (Ben) Lipari, Kelly Thielen, Kim (Tim) Gleason, Nicole Gandee and Tamara (Hunter) Scott; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Salvo of Racine and Jeanette Salvo of Florida; and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on September 19, 1998; and a daughter, Janice, on August 12, 1958.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth St., on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Barrow officiating. Private burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Communion Church Building Fund have been suggested.
