Caroline Knox (Johnson) Madsen

Caroline Knox Madsen, age 54, passed away at Cameo Care Center, Milwaukee, WI, on Friday, October 30, 2009, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born on July 30, 1955, to William and Margaret (Nee: Smith) Johnson in St. Claire Shores, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Christopher.

Caroline had her mind set on becoming a police officer, and succeeded in accomplishing this goal. She graduated from the academy and became one of the first females to work for the Racine Sheriff’s Department. On March 10, 1980, she was appointed as a Racine County Deputy. She worked for the department for 16 years before early retirement due to M.S. complications. She was proud of a commendation she received for her efforts involving a shootout in July 1980. She will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her children, Kirstin and James Madsen; grandchildren, Bradley and Alexandra; sister, Marjorie (John) Webb; and nephew, Nick (Leah); sister, Nancy (Dan) Milkie; and nephews, Derrick and Ryan; and niece, Caitlin; sister, Elizabeth (Hans) Fester; and nephew, Ian; and nieces, Sabina and Eleri; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 614 Main St., with Rev. Liz Simmons officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Racine, WI, are suggested by the family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Caroline's family, friends, and extended family. Even though it's been over 35 years since we were roommates, co-workers, and friends...she is still in my mind as a kind, loving, caring, friend that I had a lot of laughs and great times with.
