Anna (VanDyke) Talsma

Anna (nee: VanDyke) Talsma, 90, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Lucas, Michigan, on October 22, 1918, to James and Tena (nee: DeGroot) VanDyke. Anna’s family moved to Iowa where she eventually met and married Carl Talsma on November 24, 1938. They moved to Racine, where Anna has lived for the last 69 years. Anna and Carl were able to spend 18 winters in Florida, where they made and enjoyed many friends.

Anna blessed those she knew through her roles over the years as a homemaker, Sunday school teacher, friend and Christian school supporter. She was a member of the Racine Christian Reformed Church and attended and taught various Bible studies. Her love for the Lord was evident in how she lived her life.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Rose, Tena, Bea, Gertrude, Herman and John. Surviving siblings are Reka Andringa, Bertha VanderPlaats and Jake VanDyke, all of Iowa, Mac (Annette) VanDyke of Michigan, and sister-in-law, June VanDyke of Iowa. She is further survived by her four children, Thelma (Ted) Montsma, George (Kathy) Talsma, Jim (Kathy) Talsma and Carl (Kelly) Talsma; seven grandchildren, Tom (Susan) Montsma, Tim (Marge) Montsma, Don (Jill) Montsma, Steve (Stephanie) Montsma, Beth (Mike) Adam, Matt (Gretchen) Talsma and Carl Talsma; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna was blessed with many special friends from church, Bible study, Delavan, and Imperial Apartments where she lived for the last three years.

Funeral services will be held at Racine Christian Reformed Church, 900 Illinois St., on Monday, November 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Bylsma officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and at the church on Monday before services, from 10 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in honor of Anna may be given to the Racine Christian School Endowment Fund.

A special thank you to the 3rd floor nurses at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints and Hospice for the fine care given to Anna.
