Ben Martin, Sr.

Sturtevant -- Ben Martin, Sr., 68, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/All Saints, ICU on Sunday, October 12, 2008. He was born in Waukesha on Dec. 14, 1939, to the late Jessie and Lilly (nee: Close) Martin. He lived most of his life in Racine. He was united in marriage to the former Leila Jansen at Racine Assembly of God Church on July 28, 1962.

He was employed at American Motors as a mechanic for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He loved bowling, playing cards and his country music.

He is survived by his wife, Leila Martin; one daughter, Cindy (Steve) Zastrow of Wild Rose; three sons, Ben Martin, Jr., Danny Martin and Harry Martin; two granddaughters, Tiffany Ann and Kristin Marie Zastrow, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy, Nellie, Faye and her husband, Roger; one brother, Lester and his wife, Bonnie.

Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Carlos Ancheta officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 11 am until the the time of service.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Martin to the American Diabetes Association have been suggested.
