Ruth Violet (nee: Halberstadt) Squires, 90, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008, at Becker-Shoop Center. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on August 7, 1918, the daughter of George and Chlora (nee: Kilman) Halberstadt.
On November 20, 1940, Ruth was united in marriage to Clayton Squires. She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society. Ruth enjoyed ceramics, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She also loved to travel. Ruth and Clayton visited all of the 50 states, and traveled to Canada, Mexico, Europe, China and Japan.
Surviving is her husband of 68 years, Clayton, and their two children, Donald (Lani) Squires of Kansasville and Judy (Bill) Edwards of Door County; three grandchildren, Jon (Lora) Squires of Appleton, Jennifer Edwards and Daniel (Karen) Squires, all of Racine. She is further survived by other relatives and dear friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Halberstadt, and a grandson, Brian Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Thursday evening, October 16, 2008, at 7 p.m. Private burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Thursday before services from 5 p.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
