Sister Mary (Jean Marie) Raynoha, O.P.

Sister Mary Raynoha, O.P., 92, passed away at Siena Center, Racine on Wednesday October 22, 2008.

Mary Delores was born June 14, 1916, to Frank and Justina (nee: Debnar) Raynoha in Madison, WI. On August 29, 1937, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1938 she was given the religious name Sister Jean Marie. She professed her first vows in 1940 and her final vows in 1946. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name Mary.

Sister Mary spent many years in service to others as a teacher and artist. She began her ministry in 1939 at St. Edward, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Francis Xavier, Merrill; St. John, Little Chute; St. Bernard, Madison; St. Catherine High School and St. Catherine Convent/Siena Center, Racine. She also served in Michigan at St. Clement, Center Line, and St. John, Hubbardston. She became a resident at Siena Center in 1970 and continued her ministry as an artist and switchboard operator. From 1985 to 1997 she was the Secretary/Treasurer for US/USSR Friendship Society of Racine-Kenosha.

Sister Mary is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother Stephen (Mary Ann); and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Stefan, Martin, John and Joseph; sisters Hermina Zimmerman, Delores Gorman, Anne Alice Reuss, and Mary.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Monday, October 27, at 10 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
