Leone M. (nee: Barrett) Murphy, 92, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center with her family at her side.
Leone was born in Manilla, Iowa, on February 12, 1916, the daughter of C. E. and Lillian M. (nee: McDermott) Barrett. She was united in marriage to Donald V. Murphy on April 12, 1940. Leone attended Brown’s Business College in Davenport, Iowa, Mole’s Beauty School in Tacoma, Washington, and retired from Club International Travel Agency in Milwaukee.
Leone is survived by her children, Dr. Ned (Kathy Johnson) Murphy and Donna (Thomas) Hetland, all of Racine; five grandchildren, Thomas (Jodi) Hetland, Michele (John) Wojcik, Jennifer Murphy, Rebecca Murphy and her husband Joe Gozdowiak, and Russ (Rachel) Hetland; seven great-grandchildren, Briana Wojcik, Cameron Hetland, Mackenzie Wojcik, Rylee Hetland, Kaden Hetland, Kyra Hetland and Henry Gozdowiak. She is further survived by, one brother Dr. C. F. "Larry"(Lois) Barrett; two sisters, Lois (Jim) Carron, both of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Betty (Chuck) Wilder of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Leone was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on September 11, 1997.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Leone’s life will be held at St. Richard’s Parish, 1509 Grand Ave., on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Gramza officiating. Entombment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Richard’s Parish have been suggested by the Murphy family.
Leone’s family would like to extend a very heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Robert Gullberg, his nurse, Amanda, and the staff at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center for the fine care given to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
