Ruth Rutkowski, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. She was born in Racine on June 2, 1918, to Elsie (Nee: Ritter) and William Herms. She married Peter Rutkowski in 1953, and moved to Kenosha and raised a family.
Prior to her marriage, she worked for the Wisconsin Gas Company and Service Paper. After her children were grown, she returned to work at Brookside Care Center as a medical records librarian until her retirement at age 67. Ruth returned to Racine to be closer to her family and friends. She was a longtime volunteer at Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital and Kenosha Schools. She was an active card player, a member of the Lakeview Senior Center, an avid baker, and a voracious reader. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Herms; her husband, Peter; and her grandson, Andrei Rutkowski of Racine. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Rutkowski and her husband, Daryl Jensen of Stoughton; her son, Thomas Rutkowski and his wife, Natalie Chulew of Racine; her step-son, Peter Rutkowski Jr. and his wife, Louise Rutkowski of Chagrin Falls, OH, and their family; her grandchildren, Julia and Lauren Jensen and Adam Rutkowski. She is also survived by her sisters, Lucille Herms and Florence Johnson of Racine, Carole and Jim Schultz of Elm Grove, WI; brother, Ralph and Marion Herms of Lakewood, CO; and many beloved nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her Godson, David Johnson, for his generous care and support.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Chryst officiating. Private interment will be held at St. Casimir Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service.
Ruth enjoyed a full life and lived for her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart.
