Francisco 'Pancho' Estrada

Francisco 'Pancho' Estrada, age 76, passed away peacefully Saturday morning October 18, 2008, at his residence. Francisco was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, on October 4, 1932, son of the late Santiago and Francisca (nee: Estrada) Gomez and has been a resident of Racine since 1954.

On June 14, 1991, he was united in marriage to Julianne Oshenic in Racine. Francisco was employed with J.I. Case Company for nearly thirty years until his retirement in 2001. In his younger years, he had been employed with Lakeside Malleable. He was an amateur boxer as a young man and was an avid musician known throughout the Midwest playing Latin music on his trumpet. Through the years Pancho enjoyed his true passion while playing with the bands: Los Embajadores, Jack Pachuca y Los Diablitos, Tierra Libre, La Familia en Cristo and El Calvario. Later in life, Pancho surprised everyone by becoming a marathon runner. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Julianne; two daughters, Dolores Estrada, Rosa (Suwit) Khongmuang, all of Milwaukee; step-children, Randy and Gerald Pond, Lorraine Ropel, Julie Pond (Juan Chavez), Kim (Eric) Hunkins; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother Raul (Amalia) Mejia of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Luz and brothers, Ezequiel Ayala and Juan Gomez.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday October 24, 2008, at 7 p.m., with Rev. Raul Saldana officiating. Interment will be private. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of services.

The family extends a special thank you to the friends and neighbors who helped make Francisco’s last year of his life comfortable.
