Arthur L. Johnson

Arthur L. Johnson, age 86, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009. Arthur was born in Milbank, South Dakota, March 27, 1923, son of the late Arthur L. and Mary (Nee: O’Donnell) Johnson Sr.

Arthur was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1943” and was a proud member of their 1943 WIAA State Championship Basketball Team. During WWII, he served as Pharmacist Mate 3rd class in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bountiful stationed in the Pacific Theatre, for which he received two bronze stars.

On January 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” J. Egan. Arthur was employed by J.I. Case Company for four years and then by Dynamatic Division of Eaton Corporation in Kenosha for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church and VFW Post 1391. Arthur also was a golf enthusiast and enjoyed time spent with his friends walking at the mall. Above all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; his children, Timothy (Kathy) Johnson of Boynton Beach, FL, Thomas (Laurie) Johnson of Racine, Susan M. Johnson of Milwaukee, WI; his two grandsons, Kevin M. Johnson, and Michael (Caroline) Johnson of Florida; sister, Dolores Stedman of Charlottesville, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James (Judy) Egan of San Antonio, TX, Judy (Raymond) Schoedl of Menomonee Falls, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Samuel Stedman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Ave., on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza officiating. Private interment with full military honors will be held at Holy Family Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School or to St. Richard’s Catholic Church have been suggested.
