Cecelia M. Schmitz, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Cecelia was born in Racine on January 11, 1914, daughter of the late Matthis and Anna (Nee: Frantz) Schmitz.
Cele graduated with a teaching degree from St. Frances College in Joliet, IL. She was a longtime dedicated member and teacher at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she taught 3rd grade students for thirty-five years. Cele also taught at Holy Name School. She enjoyed upholstery, crafts and her life on the family farm.
Survivors include her niece, Dr. Mary Urhausen of Racine; nephew, Joseph (Judith) Schmitz of Racine; many other nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her eight sisters and brothers, Sr. Ann Mary Schmitz, Bill (Margaret) Schmitz, Marie (Ted) Urhausen, RoseMary Schmitz, Albert (Theresa) Schmitz, John Schmitz, Susie Schmitz and Leone Schmitz.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Smile Train, P.O. Box 96231, Washington D.C. 20090-6231 or to St. Joseph Catholic Church have been suggested.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to cousin Eileen Weill Stauss and the Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.
