Fred R. Gunther, 92, passed away at Becker Shoop Center on Saturday July 4, 2009. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on June 30, 1917, the son of Henry and Emma (nee: Mueller) Gunther. On October 4, 1950, in Racine Fred was united in marriage to Sylvia Siefert.
Fred served in the United States Army during World War II, honorably discharged as Tech Sergeant. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from UW-Madison. Fred was an engineer for Racine Steel Castings for 34 years, retiring in 1982.
Fred and his wife, Sylvia, loved to travel stateside and visit Europe; together they found great enjoyment and peace at their vacation home in Minocqua. He was a member of the Racine Yacht Club and enjoyed sailing. Fred also had a personal interest in Racine history.
Fred is survived by his nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, on January 2, 2008; brother, Henry; and a sister, Sue Kasabian. There will be visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday July 8, 2009, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., then proceed to Mound Cemetery for the committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Racine Public Library have been suggested.
