Joseph Leggin, age 87, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Joseph was born in Taylor, PA, on January 23, 1922, son of the late John and Julia (Nee: Macik) Leggin and was a Racine resident since 1956.
Joseph was a graduate of St. Procopious College in Lisle, IL. During WWII, he served in the United States Army. Joseph was employed by Sante Fe Railroad and then by Amtrak as an on board service manager for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1985. Joseph was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca (Chester) Swanson of Random Lake, WI, Julie (Fred) Ingiald; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; dear friend, Elaine Cobb; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Mike and Steve; and sisters, Olga, Anne and Madelyn.
Funeral services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4649 Lora St., on Monday, August 3, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Hilbert Kamps officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to Redeemer Lutheran Church have been suggested.
