Josefina Amaya Garcia, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday July 3, 2009. She was born in Crystal City, Texas on September 11, 1925, the daughter of Miguel and Sabina (nee: Garcia) Amaya.
Josefina was united in marriage to Rodolfo Garcia in Morehead, Minnesota, on August 13,1941. She attended St. Edward’s Catholic Church for many years. Josefina enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also found great enjoyment in listening to music, dancing and especially shopping with cousin Maria “Cuca” Garcia.
Josefina is survived by her three daughters, Olga (Dennis) Swindle of Arlington, TX, Esmeralda Garcia-Flores, Josefina (Victor) Huarota all of Racine; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Pablo (Eva) Amaya of Racine, Juan (Lupe) Amaya of Racine; sisters, Estefana (Alfredo) Rodriguez of Crystal City, TX, and Micaela Lopez of Racine. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Josefina was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Rodolfo Garcia Sr. on November 27, 1980; one son, Rodolfo Garcia Jr. on August 14, 1993; and one sister, Ernestina Hernandez on February 27, 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 1430 Grove Ave., on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at noon, with Fr. Richard Molter officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery on Douglas Avenue. There will be a visitation at church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until Mass time.
