Gudrun Andreasen

Gudrun (nee: Houmann) Andreasen, 99, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. Gudrun was born in Lokken, Denmark, on January 20, 1910, the daughter of the late Neils and Anna (nee: Sorensen) Thomsen Houmann.

Her family immigrated to Racine on April 18, 1911. She and her parents returned to Denmark in 1916, where she received her education through the fifth grade and returned to Racine in 1922 to complete her education. Gudrun worked in Houmann & Son Fish Market for 17 years until her marriage to Aage ‘Charley’ Andreasen in Racine at Immanuel Lutheran Church on May 25, 1940, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1955.

Gudrun catered the meals at Dania Hall for 17 years and then was head cook at the Danish Old People’s Home for 22 years. She was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and was on the Altar Committee for 36 years, a member of the Joy Circle and the former Ladies Aid. Gudrun was a member of Danish Sisterhood Victoria Lodge #5, the Danish Brotherhood Lodge # 182 and Dania Ladies. She enjoyed visiting people, listening to talking books, stitchery and travel. Gudrun told wonderful life stories and had a fabulous memory.

Surviving are one son, Allen (Linda) Andreasen of Bella Vista, Arkansas; grandson, Todd (Nicole) Andreasen of Racine; granddaughter, Amy (Shane) Mauel of Watertown; seven great grandchildren, Chase, Mariah, Owen and Olivia Andreasen, Hailey, Hunter and Ryker Mauel; three nieces, Nana Houman-DeYoung of Ames, IA, Joyce Adelsen and Viola Adelsen Pedersen of Kenosha; one nephew, Jerome Wallace of Racine; also grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Gudrun was preceded in death by a son, Charles on January 26, 1948; a brother, George (Gerde) Houmann; two sisters, Nanna Houmann and Agnes (Peter) Adelsen; three nephews, Neils Adelsen, Anker Adelsen and Clifford Adelsen of Kenosha; two nieces, Mabel Houmann-Wallace and Betty Adelsen Heide Kuessow.

Funeral services will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St., on Thursday July 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. M.A. Miritz officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday, before services from 10:30 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, or to Lincoln Village Convalescent Center, Activities Dept. would be appreciated
