John E. “Gus” Milovancevic, 92, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Thursday, July 16, 2009.
Gus was born on August 27, 1916, to Peter and Barbara (nee, Smernich) Milovancevic. He was united in marriage to the former Wilma Spanbauer in September 1947. Gus worked for the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations of Wisconsin for 23 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. coast Guard during WWII. Gus graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Racine Elks Lodge #252 and the Croation Fraternal Union – Racine Lodge # 797. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post #1391 and American Legion Post #310.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Milovancevic; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Melan Lovance.
In following with Gus’ wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial mass for Gus will be held at a later date.
