Franksville -- James R. Varley, 86, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his home. He was born in Janesville on Dec. 21, 1922, to the late James and Clara (nee: Scarcliff) Varley.
He lived most of his life in Racine. He was united in marriage to the former Lois A. Peterson, in Racine on August 29, 1953. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a firefighter for the City of Racine for 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in December, 1977. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Varley; son, Duane Varley; daughters, Kay (Weber) Varley, Jacqueline (Dennis) Breeden, Karen (Patrick) Wirtz; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Seline; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Varley to Hospice Alliance have been suggested.
