Andy was born in Racine on January 20, 1929, to Mikel and Marie (nee, Petz) Schaefer. He married the former Florence L. Krueger. She preceded him in death on July 29, 1996. Andy was a massage therapist for the West Suburban YMCA in Wauwatosa, retiring from the Racine YMCA. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and was a true friend to many.Andy is survived by his children, Mary Mueller, Margaret Highland, Roy (Nadine) Schaefer, Carolyn (Dane) Placko and Bonnie (Steve) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Loanna Schaefer; grandchildren, Michael Schaefer, Ross Schaefer, Ryan Schaefer, Grace Placko and Haley Placko; great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mart (Chuck) Halstead, Ida Seyferth and Esther Gallo; and special nephew, Bill (Dorothy) Povkovich. Andy is also survived by numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Schaefer; five brothers; and six sisters.
Funeral services for Andy will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3350 LaSalle St., on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Hilbert Kamps officiating. Inurnment will take place at Valhalla Cemetery in Milwaukee. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Thursday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Blind Mission, the YMCA or a charity of one’s choice.
