Edward Lester 'Sarge' Pavlik, Sr.

Edward Lester “Sarge” Pavlik, Sr., 80, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care- All Saints. Edward was born on February 16, 1929, in Carbonhill, Ohio, the son of George and Anna (Duratny) Pavlik.

He spent 16 years in Logan, Ohio, and then moved to Racine for the rest of his life. On July 1, 1950, Edward was united in marriage to Valerie Dushane in Racine. Sarge served in the United States Army for 28 years; for 26 of those years he was 1st Sgt. with the Army Combat Engineer Reserve Unit. He also spent two years in Germany with his brothers, John and Rudy Pavlik. Lester was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1481. He was also a member of NCHA Sunchasers Camping Club, and Circle 8 Square Dance Club. He was employed by Young Radiator as a welder for over 43 years. Sarge enjoyed many hours hunting and fishing in northern Wisconsin and many good friends over the years.

Surviving are his wife, Valerie of Racine; children, Barbara Sesso of Prior Lake, MN, Edward Pavlik, Jr. of Racine, Theresa (Randall) Seyferth of Racine; six grandchildren, Carrie (Scott) Andersen of Savage, MN, Keegan Pavlik of Milwaukee, Jason Seyferth of Milwaukee, Samantha Sesso of Chicago, IL, Matthew Seyferth of Racine, Sarah Seyferth of Racine; four great-grandchildren, Jack, Ethan and Shane Andersen of Savage, MN, and Isabella Seyferth of Racine; sister, Margaret Conner of South Bend, IN; brother, Harry (Pat) Pavlik of Logan, OH.; special friends, Earl and Esther Thompson. He is further survived by many much loved nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Edward is preceded in death by five brothers, George, Paul, Robert, John, and Rudy; a sister, Celia Conner; and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 10 a.m. Private burial will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church before Mass from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
