Carol Marie Gray

Waukesha, WI – Mrs. Carol M. Gray passed away peacefully at dawn with her daughter at her side at the Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha on May 20, 2009. She was 88 years old.

Carol was born on March 2, 1921 in Racine, WI to Carl and Amelia Lindblad.

Until moving to Waukesha in 2001, Carol lived all but three years of her life in Racine. On Christmas Day 1943, she was wed to Jack Gray who was serving in the Army during wartime. He called her his “Christmas Carol." After the war, Jack and Carol began a family. They devoted their lives to each other and their children. Family meant everything to them. Holidays and family reunions were very special. Carol and Jack shared a strong faith in Jesus Christ. As did her parents and siblings, Carol had a gift for music and writing. Carol and Jack also enjoyed traveling. There was at least one family camping adventure each summer. After Jack retired in 1982, he and Carol made several trips to the Pacific Northwest to visit their daughter and grandson.

Carol’s blue eyes and sweet smile will be sadly missed by her son, John (Kathy) Gray of Waukesha, WI; and her daughter, Karen J. Neuman of Puyallup, WA; her grandchildren, Erica (Mark) Lange of Phoenix, AZ, Erin (Robert) Crawford of Waukesha, WI, and Matthew (Sierra) Neuman of McCall, ID; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, and Keegan Lange, Logan, Skylar, and Paige Crawford, and Della Rose Neuman; and her sisters, Jean Robinson of Minneola, FL, and Mary Ellen (Don) Staff of Racine. She is also survived by 29 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Schuyler Gray, on October 20, 1991; her brothers, John, Elliott, Paul, and Wesley Lindblad; and her sister, Nancie (Rigoletto) DiMilo.

Funeral services will be held in Racine at the Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Monday, May 25, at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at 1:30 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Mound Cemetery on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 9:30 a.m.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Lunde and the staff of the Virginia Health & Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha for the compassionate care given to Carol during the past eight years.
