Jerome W. Horton

Jerome W. Horton, “Jerry,” 91, passed away May 13, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Mr. Horton was born in Racine on July 14, 1917, son of the late Edward “Joe” and Kathryn (Nee:Reiter) Horton and was a lifelong resident of Racine. On July 9, 1949, he was united in marriage to Catherine M. Grachan at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

During World War II, Jerry served in the US Army as a technician with the Headquarters Company South Pacific Base Command. He retired from Jacobsen Mfg. after 30 plus years as an accountant and was a member of the 20-year club. He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a past member of the St Joe's dart ball team.

Survivors include his wife Catherine “Kay”; his children, Jerry R Horton and Carol Horton (Mark Dorf) of Racine; brother and sister-in-law, Richard “Dick”(Gerry) Horton , of Sturtevant; grandchildren, Arlo Horton (Jen Reiter) of Milwaukee, and Sally Horton; and great-grandchildren, Garrick and Lauren Horton of La Crescent, MN; special nieces, Kathy (Matt) Olson and Lynn (Rob) Riemer; other nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his infant brother, Warren Horton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Reverend John D. Aiello officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet Saturday at the church at 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Joseph Catholic Church have been suggested.

The family wishes to send a very special and heartfelt thank you to the staff of Harmony Commons, Hospice Alliance, and the Wheaten Franciscan staff.
