Charles E. Thoele

Charles E. Thoele, age 93, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Town of Dover. Charles was born in Buffalo, IL, August 21, 1915, son of the late Anthony and Leita M. (Nee: Woodcock) Thoele.

During World War II and the Korean War Charles proudly served in the United States Navy where he made a career in the military. Upon retiring he continued his career at the Great Lakes Naval Base. While serving in the Navy Charles met his sweetheart, Dorothy Douglas, and on August 1, 1940, they were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2006. Charles was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his six children, Mary Anne (Lloyd) Howell of Rainier, WA, Karl Frederick (Maritess) Thoele of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Sylvia Kathleen (John William) Ryan of Waukegan, IL, Paul Gerard (Jane) Thoele of Sturtevant, WI, Mark Andrew (Paula) Thoele of Savanna, IL,, Sarah Jane (Richard) Noe of Racine, WI; 11 grandchildren; sister, Mary Elizabeth Logan of Buffalo; sister-in-law, Mary Thoele of Rockford, IL; brother-in-law, Jack Freeman of Springfield, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Frederick and Bernard; and sisters, Catherine Hall and Frances Lucille Freeman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louis Catholic Church, 13207 Hwy G, Caledonia, on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark Danczyk officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Louis Catholic Church have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Union Grove, Boland Hall 3E for their loving and compassionate care.
