Frederick W. Witt, 88, passed away at Harmony Living Center, on Wednesday May 20, 2009. He was born in Racine on February 1, 1921, the son of Fred J. and Martha V. (Pooch) Witt.
Fred served in the U.S. Army in the 163rd Field Artillery Battalion, 38th Infantry Division in the Central and South Pacific and the Philippines. He was employed as a Certified Public Accountant in Racine since 1952, retiring after 55 years of service.
Fred is survived by two sisters, Cecilia (Edward) Westberg of Sheboygan and Esther Witt of Milwaukee; friend and former wife, Jean Witt of Racine; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Witt of Los Altos, Calif.; he is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, colleagues, and dear friends.
Fred was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Paul Witt.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie Street, on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Quinn officiating. Burial will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran High School or to one’s favorite charity in Fred’s name have been suggested.
