Sister Margaret Ann Dresang, O.P., 90, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Saturday, May 23, 2009.
Mary Elizabeth Dresang was born October 26, 1918, to Christopher and Margaret (nee: Nussbaum) Dresang in Appleton, Wisconsin. On October 26, 1935, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1936 she was given the religious name Sister Margaret Ann. She professed her first vows in 1938 and her final vows in 1944.
Sister Margaret Ann spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1937 at Sacred Heart, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Bernard, Madison; SS. Peter and Paul, Green Bay; St. Mary, Holy Name and St. Joseph, Racine; St. Benedict, Milwaukee; St. Louis, Caledonia; Holy Name Kimberly; St. Norbert, Roxbury; St. Mary and St. Anthony, Kenosha; and St. Mary, Mayville. She also served in Michigan and New Mexico. She became a resident at Siena Center in 1990 and continued to serve in the Senior Companion Program. She moved to Lakeshore Manor two weeks ago.
Sister Margaret Ann is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister, Roseal (Fred) Hauser; sisters-in-law, Elda Dresang and Margie Dresang; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Nick, Bernard, Norman, Norbert and an infant brother; sisters, Catherine, Elizabeth, Anna, Margaret, Magdalen and an infant sister.
Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday, May 27, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
