Sister Bernadette Leduc, O.P., 83, passed away at Siena Center, Racine on Sunday, May 24, 2009.
Emilianna Leduc was born July 8, 1925, to Wilfred and Martina (nee: Forget) Leduc in Detroit, MI. On January 23, 1943, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1944 she was given the religious name Sister Bernadette. She professed her first vows in 1946 and her final vows in 1952.
Sister Bernadette spent many years in service to others in teaching and pastoral care. She began her ministry in 1945 at Holy Name, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were SS. Peter & Paul, Green Bay; Holy Angels, Milwaukee; St. Aloysius, Sauk City; and Holy Cross, Kaukauna. In California she served at St. Joseph Academy and St. Joseph Parish in Fontana. She also served in Michigan at Nativity, Assumption Grotto, and Patronage of St. Joseph in Detroit; St. Clement, Centerline; Casa Maria, Imlay City; and Hospital Hospitality House, Saginaw. Later she continued to serve others by doing home care or elder care in Warren and Roseville, MI. She became a resident at Siena Center, Racine in January 2007.
Sister Bernadette is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brothers, Raymond (Pauline), Gerald (Pearl Marie), and John Albert (Mary) LeDuc; and sisters, Remonne Cardinal, and Elaine DeFever; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Lucille Grodi and Cecilia Chronister; and brothers-in-law, Arnold Grodi, Jack Cardinal and Henry Chronister.
Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Thursday, May 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
