Red Granite, WI -- Curtis W. Hipke, age 87, passed away early Saturday morning, May 30, 2009 at Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee. Curtis was born Iron River, WI, on April 2, 1922, son of the late Benjamin and Inez (nee:Barr ) Hipke.
He grew up in Ashland, WI, and graduated from Ashland High School. During World War II, Curt proudly served in the U.S. Army. Curt resided in Racine for 30 years, working for Marigold Dairy and owning and operating a Mobil Gas Station on Durand Avenue. In 1969 Curt became an over-the-road semi truck driver and moved to Red Granite, where he was employed with Schneider Transportation for over twenty years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his children, Dennis Hipke, Bonnie Hipke, Jeri (Bob) Fisher, Jodi Jensen, Trace (Mark) Stainbrook and Teri Gemmell, all of Racine; grandchildren, Dan Hipke (Vicki Anderson), Jerame (Maria) Leger, Kaitlin and Nicholas Stainbrook, Gina (Douglas) Behr, Viki (David) Murray, Tami (Phil) Swaine; great-grandchildren, April, Yenessa, Estreya, Colton and Kennedy; a sister, Ethel Hamilton of Spokane, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Curtis was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Hipke; his brother, Howard (Vi) Hipke; and two sisters, Myrtle Blahnik and Grace Block.
A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held Monday, June 15, 2009, at noon at the funeral home with Reverend Walter Hermanns officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service.
