Catherine Ann 'Kay' Sturino

KENOSHA - Catherine Ann “Kay” (nee: Ruffolo) Sturino, 76, passed away at her residence surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday January 23, 2010. Kay was born in Kenosha on July 19, 1933, the daughter of Gabriel and Caroline (nee: Gentile) Ruffolo Sr. She was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School “Class of 1951.” Kay was united in marriage to Michael J. Sturino on June 9, 1951, in Kenosha. She was employed as a cook in the bakery/deli at Sentry Foods in Kenosha for 28 years retiring in 1989.

Kay found great enjoyment in reading, playing Bingo, attending flea markets and participating in the pontoon parade. She was fond of travel and loved her jewelry and crafts. Kay was an amazing cook and could whip up a ten-course meal without any hesitation at a moment's notice, when she was greeted with unexpected family and friends who would stop by to visit.
Kay was a loving and devoted wife and mother who was blessed with many dear friends, which included her woman’s club, that she was proud to be part of for over 50 years, along with the Red Hatters Club.

Kay and Mike lived in Kenosha until her retirement; then they relocated to Holcombe and spent many winters in Zephyrhills, Florida, moving back to Kenosha in 2009 to be with their family.

Kay is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Linda Moser of Racine, Annette (Jeff) Palmen of Kenosha, Karen Kirkwood of Flint, Michigan; daughter-in-law, June Sturino of Kenosha; sister, Olivia Sturino; brothers, Gabriel Ruffolo, Richard Ruffolo; sisters-in-law, Gloria Sturino, Audrey Sturino and Edith (Ned) Sayles, all of Kenosha. She is further survived by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, special friend, Shirley Krogman of Eau Claire, and dear friends in Kenosha, Racine, Holcombe and Zephyrhills, Florida.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, on September 14, 2009; two sons, Thomas on July 6, 2008, and infant son at birth; her parents; brothers-in-law, George Sturino in 1997, Albert Sturino in 2007', and step-mother, Florence Greco Ruffolo in 2006.

Funeral services will be held at the Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday January 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. There will be a visitation at the Sturino Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kay’s name may be directed to the family to be used toward her favorite charity.
