Donald 'Donnie' R. Eckert

Donald R. Eckert, age 59, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Donald was born in Racine, December 12, 1950, son of the late Donald H. and Muriel L. (Nee: Jensen) Eckert.

Donnie was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1969.” On October 27, 1973, in Racine he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Kathryn J. Ropiak. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church. Donnie loved nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved his fishing vacations with his family and friends at Spooner Lake and Pelican Lake. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing with his Styberg buddies. Donnie was devoted to his family and friends and was always willing to help others, including being a longtime blood donor. His Saturday morning runs with his doughnuts and coffee will be dearly missed by his “cupcakes” and family.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years and best friend, Kathy; his daughters, Heather (Ed) Polzean, Amanda (Patrick) Prochniak; his four grandchildren, Shelby Jo and Ashley Polzean, Alaina and Carter Prochniak; twin brother, Ron (Chris) Eckert; sister, Cynthia (Gary) King; mother-in-law, Virginia Ropiak; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beth (Kevin) Parco, Tom (Sue) Ropiak, Bob (Susie) Ropiak, Jim Ropiak; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Joseph Ropiak.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church have been suggested by the family.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Racine Fire Department and to the ER and ICU staffs at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center for their extraordinary and compassionate care.
