Gilbert S. Jastrow

Surrounded by his family, Gilbert Sylvester Jastrow, age 83, died peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2010, at Lakeview Specialty Hospital, Waterford, WI. He was born in Blenker, WI, on September 19, 1926, son of the late Leonard and Ludmilla (Nee: Mancl) Jastrow and was raised in Milwaukee.

At the age of 16, Gilbert joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII. At the end of the war he joined and served with the U.S. Army. He met and married Beatrice Marion with whom he raised six children. Gilbert retired from Young Radiator.

Surviving are his children, Michael (Lori) Jastrow, Marion (Dennis) Chars, Tammy (Randy) Haas, Debra Radtke, Catherine (Marshall) Teschner, and Lloyd Jastrow; grandchildren, Cassandra Jastrow, Nicole (Andy) Hapka, Michael Jastrow Jr., Dennis Chars, Ashley Haas, Cynthia Teschner, Phillip and Anthony Brkovic, Brian, Barry and Joshua Jastrow; great-grandchildren; his brother, Lloyd (Beatrice) Jastrow; sisters, Judy (Edward) Buczek, Sandra Burlock; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mabel; and younger brother, Wayne Jastrow.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the DAV (Disabled Americans Veterans) have been suggested.

The family wished to extend a special thank you to Erin of Odyssey Hospice and the nurses at Lakeview Specialty Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.
