Joyce A. Christiansen, age 63, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 1, 2010, at her residence. She was born in Minnesota, October 3, 1946, daughter of the late George and Helen (Nee: Doering) Schroeder.
Joyce was raised on a dairy farm in Hokah, MN, and loved horses. She was actively involved with the 4H and enjoyed showing her award-winning animals at the State Fair. On June 25, 1966, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Caledonia, MN, she was united in marriage to Hans C. Christiansen. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2005, secondary to Agent Orange Exposure from Vietnam. Joyce had worked and had a passion for the YMCA. She was employed at Post Rehabilitation in Kenosha for 20 years. She had a passion for her grandchildren and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children, Senior Master Sergeant (ret.) Elizabeth Christiansen of Milwaukee, Heather (Eric) Hamler of Racine, Nishanti (Peter) Jorgensen of Denmark; her five grandchildren, Jared and Emma Lahti, Anna, Benjamin and Jonathan Jorgensen; a brother, Gordon (Diane) Schroeder of Hokah, MN; a sister, Debbie (Danny) Hargrove of Pine City, MN; a brother-in-law, Gavino Medina of Winter, WI; special friends, Dennis and Judy Weisbrod, James Lahti, Linda Davies, and Lily Pace; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo (Astrid) Christiansen of Denmark; two cousins, Cheryl Klankowski, Bonnie Gregerson; her godson, Joel Dodge; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Medina.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
