Marie A. (Tomes) Murray

Marie A. Murray, age 74, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010, at her residence. Marie was born in Milwaukee, WI, July 16, 1935, daughter of the late John and Sophie (Nee: Szurlej) Tomes and was a Racine resident since 1969.

On October 20, 1956, in Milwaukee at the Church of the Open Door she was united in marriage to Martin V. Murray. Marie retired in 1997 from the Racine Unified School District after twenty-eight years of employment. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. Marie enjoyed her time with friends playing bridge with numerous bridge clubs and traveling. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who more than anything treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of fifty-four years, Martin; her sons and daughter-in-law, Michael V. Murray of Racine, Mark A. (Deb) Murray of Hayward, WI; her three grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa and Ryan Murray; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Jean) Murray of Pittsburgh, Mary Murray of Pewaukee, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Adam Tomes; and sister, Jeanette Mackett.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Ron Segedy officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet Friday from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
