Virginia Kayon (nee: Oertel), age 84, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Virginia was born in Racine, daughter of Fred and Vlasta Oertel on December 22, 1925, and was a member of the Horlick High School Class of 1944.
Virginia married Mike Povkovich in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Cy Kayon, and special friend Edgar Rosenthal. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgene George and Evelyn Carey; brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives. “Virg” is survived by a brother, Fred (Ruth) Oertel, of Racine and her cousins Jack Pluhar and Verleen Pluhar, of Anaheim, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home, on Friday, January 15, 2010, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dave Baugher officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to meet Friday at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance, Inc. have been suggested.
Virginia’s niece Lorna George would like to express the family’s gratitude to Dr. Michael Mullane and the staff at Hospice Alliance for their care. Special recognition and thanks are extended to Virginia’s caregiver, Pagrycja Dzieciol as well as Peggy Carey, Kristen Glenn, Kathie Emmerling and Renee George for their support and loving care during the past year.
