Dorothy “Dottie” L. (Barber) Leitschuh (Hudson)

Dorothy "Dottie" L. Leitschuh (Hudson) passed away peacefully at Embracing Hospice in Cumming, GA, on January 1, 2010. She was born in Racine on December 3 1925, daughter of the late George and Susan (nee: Kenney) Barber.

Dottie attended St. Rose Catholic Grade School and Park H.S. On June 10, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Hudson, at St. Rose Catholic Church. Together they raised four children, Devon (Deke) Schwaab, Scott (Sandy) Hudson, Kris (Joe) Troy and Drew Hudson. Dottie was employed at Zahn's Department Store in the photography department and later as the Manager of The Country Touch of Jos. Lawrence. After the death of her husband, Bill, on Feb. 13, 1970, she married Dr. Robert "Bob" Leitschuh on June 10, 1972 at St Edward Catholic Church. She became a loving step-mother to Steve (Mary) Leitschuh, Michael Leitschuh, Suzanne (Leitschuh) Torsheya, and Rob (Suzanne) Leitschuh.

Dottie traveled around the world with Bob. She became active in sports, learning to play tennis, bowling, skiing and golf - all after the age of 40! Most of all, Dottie loved spending time with her large family and many, many friends. She had a kind and generous heart and was open to everyone she met. She loved music, dancing, socializing and playing cards with "the gals." Dottie lived most of her life in Racine but most recently in Alpharetta, GA, near her son Scott and his family. Although she moved three times in the past couple of years, Dottie made new friends wherever she went. Her loving personality extended to all who met her. She was blessed with many grandchildren; Nick, Ryan, Benn (Anne), Gabe (Cindy), Jan (Jeffery), Casey, Anna, Kaitlin, Sarah, Molly, Brian, Craig (Cynthia), Jonathan and Lydia as well as seven great-grandchildren, the most recent born the evening after her death, and one due in February. She lovingly referred to her ever-growing family as the "89"! Dottie was a loving and compassionate wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all those who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Barber; sister, Arlene Jude; and sister-in-law, Jean Barber. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Peterson (Barber); her brothers in law, L. Robert Peterson and Jim Jude.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., with Rev. Allen Bratkowski and Rev. Richard J. Molter concelebrating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Garden Mausoleum, Racine. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. The family would like any donation in her memory be provided to Health Care Network of Racine (262-632-2400) and St. Edwards Parish.

The family would like to express a special note of thanks to all those who were especially helpful and caring to Dottie during her last few years: Jim Jude, Mary Lee, Barbara Hoppert, Pauline Schwaab, Irv Christensen, Dr. Paul Durbin and staff, the loving staff of Bay Point Assisted Living in Racine, Memory Care of Somerby in Alpharetta, GA, and Embracing Hospice of Cumming, GA.
