Asusena "Susie" Gonzales, age 85, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at the Becker-Shoop Center. Asusena was born in Lockhard, Texas, on November 19, 1923, daughter of the late Nicholas and Geronima (nee: Lopez) Sanchez and had been a resident of Racine for fifty-seven years.
On December 4, 1941, in Cotulla, Texas, she was united in marriage to Jose Gonzalez. Jose preceded her in death on July 10, 2006.
Susie was a longtime member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and testing Lady Luck on Casino trips. She was an excellent cook whose Mexican beans and rice will be missed. She will be best remembered as a loving wife and dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include her seven children, Melida (John) Munoz, Mary (Richard) Morones, Manuel (Esther) Gonzales, Carol Mata, Yolanda (Bob) Lachat, Rosa (Roberto) Aquino and John (Julia) Gonzales; special grandson, John Joseph Munoz; and eighteen other grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Eva (Fermin) Gonzalez, Saferina (Jim) Finn, Nicholas (Stella) Sanchez, Adelaida Sanchez; sisters-in-law, Amada Ortiz, Velma Sanchez, Frances Sanchez; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Reyes Gonzales; son-in-law, Mel Mata; and brothers, Albert and Rudy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 800 Wisconsin Ave., on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at 10 a..m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m.until time of Mass. Memorials to Cristo Rey Parish have been suggested.
