Edward H. Ebe

Edward H. Ebe, 90, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008. He was born in Racine on November 15, 1918.

Ed served in the United States Army during World War II, from July of 1941 to October 1945, serving three years in the European Theatre of Operations. On November 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Geraldine ‘Geri’ R. Nissen at Holy Communion Lutheran Church. Ed was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church. He was chairman and captain of ushers for more than 50 years. Ed also was a member of VFW, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Senior Luncheon Group and Insinkerator 20-year club.

His working career included being a real estate broker in the 1950s, an insurance salesman in the 1960s in Florida, where he was recognized as Salesman of the Year from 1960 to 1964. Returning to Racine in 1964, he worked as a machinist at Insinkerator until his retirement in 1984. Ed was a strong advocate for the needy in Racine. He spent years gathering food from merchants for the Holy Communion Food Bank. He was a sport enthusiast, especially bowling and Packers football. Ed was an avid health and exercise enthusiast as well. He enjoyed woodworking and was devoted to spending time with his grandsons.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Geraldine; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia ( Fred) Vogt; grandsons, Darrin Vogt and Steven Vogt; brothers and sisters-in-law, George (Jo) Nissen and Wally (Joanne) Nissen. Ed is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Memorial Services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth St., on Friday, December 26, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Barrow officiating. Inurnment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m. with full military honors. There will be a time for family and friends to meet at the church on Friday before services from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Communion Lutheran Church food bank or to St. Monica’s Senior Citizen Home have been suggested.
