Mekela (Ress) Scopel

Mekala Scopel, age 90, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Ridgewood Care Center. Mekala was born in Monson, PA, on May 2, 1918, daughter of the late George and Angeline (Nee: Pithies) Ress.

She was united in marriage to Michael Scopel who preceded her in death, April 26, 2006. She was a member of the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church and Philopthos Ladies Society. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her son, Stanley Scopel and his son Michael, both of Racine; her daughter, Angeline (Chuck) Maragos and their children Stan of Long Island, New York, and Dean and Mekala Maragos of Dellwood, MN; brother, Peter (Rita) Ress of Racine; two sisters, Mary Coveris of Merrillville, IN, and Christine (George) Diamond of Crown Point, IN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 S. Green Bay Rd., on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at 10 a.m., with Rev. John Ketchum officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet at the funeral home on Friday from 5 - 7 p.m. with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials to the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church have been suggested.
