Gloria Villanueva, age 60, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee. She was born in San Antonio, TX, on March 26, 1948, daughter of the late Rudolph Navarro and Margaret Rodriguez.
On July 2, 2000, in Racine she was united in marriage to Martin Villanueva. Gloria was employed at MATC for 20 years. She was the founder for First Mexican Fiestas for high school students and was active with women’s issues. Gloria helped establish the Racine Women’s Resource Center, was a Vista volunteer, served on the board of Directors of the Racine Spanish Center, was a past president of the Mexican American Education Committee, and was proud to have been chosen as a delegate to the 2008 Democratic Convention. Gloria also traveled extensively including participation in a work group in Nicaragua. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her husband, Martin; children, John, Carolina, Matthew, and Alberto; grandchildren, Veronica, Matthew, Joseph, Adrianna, Alyssa, Mya, Tatiana, Dakota, Margarita, Gloria and Thomas; great-grandson, Alfredo Jr.; brothers and sisters, Gerald, Carolina, Abe (Michelle), Margaret (Mark), Roseann, and Rudolph; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 2, 2009, at 5 p.m. with Selena Fox, officiating. Relative and friends may meet prior to the service from 3-5 p.m.
