Emma Doris, (nee, Yocco) Van Swol, 90, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Saturday, December 13, 2008.
Emma was born in Racine on March 1, 1918, to Henry and Mary (nee, Salvano) Yocco. She graduated from Wm. Horlick High School. Emma married Edward G. Van Swol on September 27, 1941, in Racine. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Emma retired from Walker Mfg. where she had worked as a secretary for many years. She was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church and the 3 D’s Adult Bible Class at the church. She was also a member of the Vittoria Colona Lodge and was an avid reader. Emma loved family gatherings and had always said that memories are made around the dinner table with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna (Jim) Strike; daughter-in-law, Sharon Van Swol; grandchildren, Jeff (Kimberly) Strike, Jay (Alisa) Strike, Jennifer Van Swol, Melissa Van Swol and Stephanie Van Swol; five great-grandchildren, James, Jared and Elizabeth Strike, and Sarah and Joel Strike; her brother, Ray (Janice) Yocco; sisters-in-law, Marion (Edward) Uminski and Mary Yocco; and special friend, Al Jensen. Emma is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, John Van Swol and brothers, Albert Yocco and Cesar Yocco.
Funeral services for Emma will be held at Evangelical United Methodist Church, Eleventh and Main Streets, on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Fleming and Rev. Creighton Kaye officiating. Private family interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The church is handicap accessible. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Evangelical United Methodist Church Missions Fund.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Schmidt Assisted Living for their years of loving care and to the staffs of Lincoln Village Convalescent Center and Hospice Alliance for all of their compassionate care during Emma’s short stay.
