Marjorie G. (Pederson) McQueen

Marjorie G. McQueen, age 92, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center with her son Robert and family at her side. Marjorie was born in the family home on Packard Avenue on March 3, 1916, daughter of the late George and Gerda (Nee: Norman) Pederson.

On June 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert L. McQueen who preceded her in death on April 20, 1997.

Marjorie was a graduate of the Whitewater Teachers College, now the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She maintained her lifetime membership to the Alpha XI, chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She taught school in Algoma, WI, and then returned to Racine. Marjorie was a member of First United Methodist Church of Racine, was a founding member of The Racine Country Club, The Junior League of Racine, Woman’s Club of Racine, a board member of the former Racine County Humane Society, and was Vice President of the former McQueen Inc. Insurance Agency. She was a volunteer with St. Luke’s Auxiliary.

She loved to dance and in her early years she was filmed as the first toe tap dancer in Racine. Marjorie had a great love for animals and enjoyed bowling and playing bridge. More than anything, she treasured time with her family and their time spent at their summer home on Whitefish Lake in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert B. (Paula) McQueen of Racine; her son-in-law, John Hewitt of Mt. Pleasant; her three grandchildren, Robert P. McQueen (fiancée, Amy Nelson) of Oak Creek, WI, Megan E. McQueen of St. Paul, MN, Kelly M. McQueen of Racine; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara J. Hewitt, April 7, 2003; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerome (Marie) Pederson; her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia (Jack) Sacket Sr.; her in-laws, Thomas S. and Nettie McQueen.

Funeral services have been RESCHEDULED to be held on Monday, December 22, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist church, Racine, Zoological Society, or the American Cancer Society.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the excellent staffs at Becker-Shoop Care Center and Wheaton Franciscan-St. Mary’s Medical Center for the compassionate care extended to Marjorie during her final days.
