Edward H. Sorensen

Edward H. Sorensen 92 passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 8, 2008.

Ed was born in Racine on June 23, 1916, the son of William and Caroline (nee: Neibor) Sorensen. He was united in marriage to Edna M. Beair at Holy Communion Lutheran Church on October 12, 1940, where he remained a lifelong member.

Ed was employed by Massey Ferguson as the Plant Engineer for over 37 years. He started in 1942 as an engineer developing methods and tools to build military tanks needed for the war. Ed attained the highest military security clearance available to a civilian. After the war he was responsible for the design and layout of Massey’s production and warehousing facilities throughout North America.

Ed’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family. As a family we have many wonderful memories of sharing bonfires, fishing and camping with him. We will miss his stories over a hot cup of coffee and his comforting words of wisdom.

Ed is survived by his loving daughter, JeanAnn (Michael) Johnson of Fort Atkinson; four grandchildren, Cheryl Johnson, Bradley (Julie) Johnson, Ryan (Angela) Johnson and Michael Johnson Jr., three great-grandchildren, Corey, Erin and Morgan; and one brother, William Sorensen of Racine. Ed is further survived by his brother-in-law, Norman Patzke, nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna; one daughter, Patricia Sorensen; sisters, June Zielilnski, Doris Morrison and Wilma Rutgers; and sister-in-law Dorothy Patzke. Ed was blessed with many wonderful neighbors who watched over him, especially his earth angel Jan Haumerson.

Graveside services will be held at Graceland Cemetery on Wednesday December 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Barrow of Holy Communion Lutheran Church officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery entrance at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
