Edward Lawrence Berger, 72, passed away peacefully at home, with his loving family at his side, on Thursday, December 18, 2008, following a five-year courageous battle with colon cancer.
Ed was born in Lima, Wisconsin, on September 5, 1936, to the late Robert and Annabelle (nee: Weissinger) Berger. He faithfully served our country with the United States Army during the Korean War.
On July 18, 1964, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Racine, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Laurie Ann Janot. With a dedicated work ethic, Ed was employed as a machinist at Dumore for over 33 years.
A passionate and loving family-man, Ed had a great appreciation for the simple things in life. He enjoyed tending to his yard and garden; and watching the Packers and Brewers games. Above all, nothing meant more to Ed than being in the surroundings of his entire family.
Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Laurie; their daughters, Cindy Schilling of Gurnee, IL, Andree (Dan) Zanella of Franksville, and Danell (Mark) White of East Troy; grandchildren, Courtney and Steven Schilling, Jacob Cacciotti, Natalie Zanella, Jenya and Misha White; sister, Rosie King; brothers, Herman (Laura) Berger, Robert (Blanche) Berger and Willard (Shirley) Berger; sister-in-law, Darlene Berger; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his step-mother, Martha Berger; son-in-law, Brian Schilling; brother, Arnold Berger; and brother-in-law, Donald King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 3320 S. Colony Ave., in Union Grove, with Rev. Howard G. Haase officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in St. Robert’s Church on Monday from 9:30 –11 am.
